- Hello Fellow Participants in Life,
-
- TreeViz was developed as part of my dissertation work on visualizing
- hierarchical and categorical data. Although I think TreeViz is cool, the
- general concept of treemaps that I developed in my dissertation is really
- cool. You get 1,2,3,...n dimensions in cartesian or polar coordinates with
- parameterized rendering. This general treemap algorithm allows many
- representation of hierarchies from bar charts, to pie charts, node-link
- diagrams, cone, cam, and drum trees, stacked bar charts, etc!
-
- Research and writing have taken precedence over coding Macintosh
- applications. Now I'm in a great visualization research group in AT&T
- Bell Labs and am no longer able to maintain TreeViz. It hasn't been
- worked on for since the spring of 1993. I've started from scratch on a
- much better cross-platform version (& 3D on SGI's).
-
- What this means is that I have permission from the University of Maryland's
- Office of Technology Liason (OTL) to make the code available to my fellow
- netters free of charge for non-commercial, individual use (you can't resell
- it, distribute it in a product, etc. without permission from OTL). It's a
- neat tool and I hope others can make it even better.
-
- I am always interested in discussing visualization techniques, so feel
- free to contact me. I'm busy like everyone else so I don't have time
- answer mac programming questions.
-
- Best Wishes,
-
